Responsibilities
- Affords individualized educational instruction to special needs students, attending to their academic, social, and emotional needs.
- Assesses individual children's levels, strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles.
- Develops, updates, and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Records and maintains school, classroom, and students' information such as attendance, student files, referral information, progress reports, lesson plans, curriculum development, collection of data, etc.
- Attends and participates in departmental/division meetings, planning projects, activities, and school-related evening programs.
- Prepares daily and weekly lesson plans responsive to individual strengths and needs of the children; shares in team or grade-level planning.
- Establishes and maintains a positive learning environment reflecting the school's philosophy.
- Refers students, when necessary, following school procedures.
- Communicates with parents and professional staff regularly.
- Conducts parent conferences.
- Integrates technology into the teaching-learning process.
- Maintains proper discipline and assists students in developing self-discipline and a sense of responsibility.
- Establishes a humanistic, systematic classroom code of conduct.
- Participates in arrival/dismissal, playground, and lunchtime supervisory responsibilities as assigned by the Director.
- Attends faculty meetings.
- Attends Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) meetings when needed.
- Oversees Teacher Assistant and/or Aide.
- Oversees undergraduate and graduate students.
- Provides training.
- Registers for and completes the 45-hour training classes within the first 90 days of employment and all training requirements within the first year of employment.
- Completes eight (8) in-service credit hours per school year.
Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, and put down up to fifty (50) pounds on a continuous basis. Repeated lifting and placing down of children required.
- Valid State of Florida Statement of Eligibility or verification of written application and transcripts with degree conferred. Passing scores on the state required General Knowledge Test (or CLAST test) within the first year of employment.
- Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field.
- Master's degree in Special Education or related field preferred.

- Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.
- Experience working with special needs children.
Skills
