About the role

The ESE Supervisor - Early Intervention & Early On leads the birth-to-three early intervention and early on programs for Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD). This role ensures that infants and toddlers with developmental delays are identified, served, and supported in compliance with Part C of IDEA and Michigan Mandatory Special Education (MMSE).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision, support, and coaching to Early Intervention (MMSE) staff.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Early Intervention Diagnostic Center.
  • Maintain and present appropriate student and program data.
  • Review, recommend, and provide consultation on the purchase of teaching/learning materials and supplies.
  • Supervise and coordinate the purchase, implementation, and evaluation of assistive technology and supplemental materials/equipment.
  • Support, supervise, and evaluate Early On/Early Intervention staff.
  • Assist with recruiting, recommending, and assigning teachers and paraprofessionals.
  • Work closely with building teams in designing and implementing engaging teaching strategies.
  • Participate in professional development activities and staff meetings.
  • Conduct professional development trainings and staff meetings.
  • On-going program visitations to observe, provide feedback, guided practice, and/or coordinate specific problem-solving activities.
  • Monitor the timely development and full implementation of IEPs.
  • Provide consultation to Central Office administrators, principals, curriculum leaders, and supervisors.
  • Resolve problems and respond to parental requests for information or assistance.
  • Prepare and present Wayne County Regional Educational Service Agency Act 18 Budget for Early Childhood Birth to 3 services.
  • Participate in the development of departmental systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher with a full approval in at least one special education area.
  • Three years of successful experience in special education.
  • Full or temporary approval by the State Department of Education as a Special Education Supervisor.
  • Minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience, three (3) of which must be as a teacher or teacher consultant in a state-approved special education program.
  • Experience in Special Education Early On/Early Intervention programs.
  • Prior administrative experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of compliance and accommodated/modified instructional delivery as it pertains to students with Hearing Impairments.
  • Highly organized, demonstrates attention to detail; ability to learn new skills, flexibility to work on multiple tasks and successfully adjust to challenges and change.

Pay

$88,983 - $110,736

Schedule

This is a site-based position. Telecommuting may be permitted on an occasional basis but is not a regular arrangement.
