About the role

The ESE Paraprofessional provides in-classroom assistance to both students and the teacher to help facilitate the learning environment. The ESE Paraprofessional plays a key role with helping students accomplish daily tasks necessary to access and participate within their learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Aid in the cleanup, storage, and retrieval of supplies and equipment before and after activities.
• Assist in preparing instructional materials, bulletin boards, and other items as requested by the instructional staff.
• Escort students to support service rooms such as the nurse, speech therapist, or school social worker when necessary.
• Supervise students during mainstream activities or changes in classes, ensuring they are safe and accounted for.
• Participate in staff development activities to enhance professional skills and knowledge.
• Care for students’ physical needs, including washing, lifting, feeding, taking to the toilet, diapering, and changing clothes, as required by the student’s condition.
• Maintain supervision of students during the lunch period, feeding them as needed, and ensuring their safety.
• Implement activities as directed by the instructional staff.
• Assist in the preparation and implementation of classroom activities and/or individual and small group instruction, under the direction/supervision of the instructional staff.
• Monitor students at the end of the day while they await buses or taxis.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Administrator or designee.
