The Environmental Services Assistant is responsible for the maintenance of an assigned area in a manner that conforms to the standards established by the policies and procedures of Milton Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direct supervision of the Environmental Services Supervisor/Lead Environmental Services Assistant, follow established departmental and hospital policies and procedures while carrying out routine cleaning duties.
  • Clean and service assigned areas such as patient rooms, offices, corridors (including walls, ceilings, and floors), bathrooms, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Remove rubbish, reline baskets, fill soap and towel dispensers, clean mirrors, outside entrance glass doors, windows, glassware, and make beds.
  • Ensure clean linen is available in assigned areas; remove soiled linen and transport clean linen.
  • Replace cubicle window curtains.
  • Provide post-mortem transportation as required.
  • Clean isolated areas and ensure equipment used in such areas is sanitized before further use in clean areas.
  • Clean rooms after patients are discharged; move furniture as needed.
  • Clean and service operating suites according to established procedures or special instructions.
  • Utilize a variety of cleaning equipment and materials in the performance of duties.
  • Follow universal precautions when performing duties that may expose the worker to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Perform tasks such as dry mopping, washing, vacuuming, dusting walls, floors, doors, air vents, lights, halls, stairways, closets, rooms, and nursing stations.
  • May be assigned to different areas as required by adjustments in work schedules.
  • Lead Environmental Assistant may take charge of the department in the absence of the supervisor or director, coordinate employees, cooperate with other departments, and leave a written report each day.
  • Carry a beeper at the discretion of the supervisor.
  • Perform all job functions in a manner that promotes the safety and health of workers, co-workers, patients, and visitors, adhering to rules and regulations set by appropriate agencies.
  • Provide transportation services to all departments as needed.
  • Work off-shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call as necessary to maintain hospital services.

Requirements

  • Adherence to a Physical Abilities Job Description as a component of this role.
  • All staff must be vaccinated against influenza (flu) as a condition of employment.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $22.88 per hour. Actual compensation is determined based on factors such as seniority, education, training, relevant experience, certifications, geography, job responsibilities, shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime, and other applicable pay practices.
