About the role
The primary responsibility of this position is to support the patient flow in the emergency department. This role adheres to the mission, vision, and values of Salem Memorial District Hospital, working under the supervision of the department director and charge nurse.
Responsibilities
- Recognize and assist patients throughout the healthcare system, addressing their needs and concerns promptly and efficiently.
- Follow professional standards, policies, and procedures, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain a clean work area and equipment according to department standards.
- Perform stocking and cleaning duties within the department.
- Aid in providing basic patient comfort measures.
- Assist with medication reconciliation functions.
- Transport patients, specimens, and equipment as needed.
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings, in-services, and required training.
- Stay updated on current trends and knowledge through continuing education.
Requirements
- Current Missouri EMT-B or CNA license.
- BLS certification.
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience preferred, with ER experience considered a plus.
- Able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of staff, patients, and families.
- Team-oriented individual with strong time management and problem-solving skills.
- Basic computer skills and flexibility to work in a multi-tasking environment.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to bend, stoop, lift up to 75 pounds, and move intermittently throughout the workday including standing, walking, sitting, lifting, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, reaching.
- Works with biohazardous materials daily.
- Required to wear and use proper personal protective equipment.
- Works indoors in a temperature-controlled environment.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases, communicable diseases via blood and other body fluids, waste, conditions, and hazards.
