About the role
The Certified Medical Assistant/Licensed Practical Nurse will assist physicians with patient care, manage appointments, provide information to patients, and perform CLIA waived moderate testing.
Responsibilities
- Assist physicians with patient care and clerical tasks
- Schedule and manage patient appointments
- Communicate with patients to ensure they receive the best care possible
- Convey a positive image of the clinic
- Collect, process routine tests, and return results to doctors
- Obtain and process doctor's orders and perform data entry
- Provide excellent customer service on the phone, with patients, doctors, and other medical staff
- Work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines
- Perform CLIA waived moderate testing
- For LPNs and RNs: Communicate with providers/nurse manager/co-workers about patient conditions, respond to changes in condition, and cross-train in additional clinic responsibilities including laboratory rapid assays, reception, and radiographic studies
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited Health Sciences program or higher
- Current BLS Certification
- Valid driver’s license
- CMA certificate/license
- RN degree with BLS certification and ACLS and PALS certifications within 6 months of hire
- LPN degree with IV therapy certification, drug administration certification, and BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications within 60 days of hire
- 6 months required experience, 2-5 years preferred
- Experience with computers and office equipment
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, bilingual a plus
- Understanding of medical terminology
- Able to accurately calculate drug dosing and drip rates for IV therapy
- Organized, able to multi-task, critical thinker, able to concentrate for long periods of time
- Good communication skills, team player, flexible, able to handle conflict issues
Qualifications
- Education/Certifications: Graduation from an accredited Health Sciences program or higher. Current BLS Certification. Valid driver’s license. Valid CMA certificate/license. RN degree with BLS certification and to obtain both ACLS and PALS certification within 6 months of hire. LPN degree with IV therapy certification, drug administration certification, and BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications within 60 days of hire, along with BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications as above. The LPN may substitute PEARS instead of PALS.
- Experience: CMA course, Phlebotomy course and phlebotomy experience. 6 months required experience, 2-5 years preferred
- Equipment/Technology: Experience with computers and office equipment, required
- Language/Communication: Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Bilingual is a plus. Must understand medical terminology
- Mental Capabilities: Organized, able to multi-task, critical thinker, able to concentrate for long periods of time in order to complete assigned tasks with a better than average attention span in order to listen, read and remember verbal and written instructions. Can understand input from the supervisor and/or manager concerning errors and instructions. Can recognize and understand the complexity and reflex-testing of laboratory complexity. Must be able to handle conflict issues with both patients and staff
