About the role

As an ER Tech at MercyOne, you will support the Emergency Department professional clinical staff by providing direct patient care, performing phlebotomy functions, EKGs, and assistive skills on all age groups: neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric as assigned by the physician or RN. You will also perform clerical work and coordinate communications within the assigned nursing unit, facilitating information exchange between the nursing area and other hospital departments. Duties may vary by shift and assigned department.

Responsibilities

• Assist Triage Nursing in meeting the needs of individuals in the waiting area, including taking vitals, rooming patients, and helping get patients out of cars.
• Complete daily stocking in assigned team.
• Assist RN with arrival of EMS patients.
• Transport patients to other departments within the hospital (CT, Surgery, and admitted floors).
• Clean rooms (change linens on carts, dispose of used equipment and disposable items, and wipe down counters and sinks) in preparation for the next patient.
• Round hourly on patients to meet their needs or communicate them to the RN.
• Perform or assist patients with personal hygiene such as oral care, dressing/undressing, and elimination needs.
• Collect and accurately label various specimens, including urine and venous blood specimens.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year of healthcare experience required.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification within six (6) weeks of hire.

Schedule

12-hour day shifts with rotating holidays and weekends.
