Department: Emergency Room - Lomas | FTE: 0.90 Full Time | Shift: Rotating

About the role

Assist in the nursing care of patients in the Emergency Center. Provides wound care and splints as required. Provide a safe, clean environment and stocks patient care areas. Ensures adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

Responsibilities

• Patient Care
  • Clean patient care rooms, equipment and instruments; report equipment problems; order and store supplies; maintain appropriate PAR levels
  • Assist nursing staff/physicians in complicated treatment procedures; perform routine treatment procedures
  • Identify and assess clinical situations beyond their scope and promptly notifies a nurse and/or physician
  • Provide oxygen therapy, I.V. setup, catheterization, gastric lavage, suctioning; apply cardiac monitor and basic assessments under the supervision of RN or attending physician as requested
  • Provide direct clinical services to patients including screening and identification, rehabilitative, and counseling services as directed
  • Assist the nurse in the management of observation unit patients
  • Complete wound care process according to medical protocol under the direct supervision of RN or physician
• Transport
  • Transport patients, collect, label and transport specimens, equipment, supplies, charts and materials to include arterial blood gas specimens
  • Transport patients to other units or to in-patient testing areas
• Records & Support
  • Maintain record keeping and filing system; make photocopies; run errands; perform other support duties as assigned
• Dispatch
  • Perform dispatch duties as required
• Equipment
  • Assist with the provision of administrative support in regards to equipment maintenance, calibration and statistical data compilation

  • Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards

  • Establish and maintain good rapport and effective working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians and Hospitals employees
• Patient Safety
  • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
  • Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
  • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
• Development
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops

Requirements

• Education: High School or GED Equivalent
• Experience: 1 year directly related experience
• Credentials: CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers within 30 days; Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate License
• Language: Bilingual (English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo) preferred
• Physical Conditions: Heavy Work (exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people)
• Working Conditions: Significant exposure to chemicals and biohazardous materials; PPE required; Tuberculosis testing completed upon hire and as required

Pay

Shift differentials: 17% for Weekday Nights, 26% for Weekend Nights, and 15% for Weekend Days.
