About the role

Up to $2,500 sign-on bonus based on eligibility. Under general supervision of a Charge Nurse or Registered Nurse and according to established Emergency Department policies and procedures, you will maintain appropriate levels of supplies and cleaning of equipment for the Emergency Department. You will assist with observation, moving, and restraining of patients as necessary, provide emergency services to adult, geriatric, and pediatric patients as instructed, and transport patients or specimens to appropriate departments. This role ensures quality and safe delivery of care to patients of all ages, from neonate to geriatric.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care and transport of patients; perform stat duties as situations necessitate.
• Perform EKGs as needed, appropriately placing electrodes and securing a hard copy of the patient’s permanent record, ensuring it is properly marked with the patient’s name and number.
• Take patient’s pulse oximetry and/or vital signs, referring problems to nursing staff as needed.
• Assist with positioning and/or moving patients from stretchers to wheelchairs and in restraining patients using the team approach (Department of Public Health Guidelines).
• Observe disruptive patients in restraints, watching for escalation of behavior (required by law by the Department of Public Health).
• Apply Nasal Cannula Oxygen as directed by RN, obtain specimens such as urine, perform bedside testing and quality control.
• Perform noninvasive oxygen saturations and peak flow measurements on patients in need of respiratory readings; perform visual acuities as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy duties as needed, following all sterile procedures and proper labeling techniques.
• Observe patients for negative reactions and take appropriate measures to allay patient anxiety.
• Dispose of used needles or equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Other related duties as required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma.
• Specialized courses in phlebotomy procedures, formal training for the team approach to patient intervention, EKG training, and basic training for vital signs and related patient care.
• Yearly certification required; CPR certification required.
• Minimum of 6 months’ experience as an Emergency Technician or related experience.

Pay

$15.01 - $22.52 hourly. Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience.
