Position Summary
This position is responsible for creating the first impression of the hospital's services to patient's, families, and other external customers. Responsible for the integrity of all front-end business functions that support excellent patient-centered customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Greets and welcomes all patients and visitors in a warm professional manner.
- Adheres to behaviors and conduct that contributes to excellent patient service.
- Ensures that complete and accurate demographic and financial information has been populated into the electronic medical record by interviewing the patients and collecting and recording all necessary information for registration of a patient.
- Ensures patient receives necessary Medicare/Medicaid disclosures, MSP verification and privacy information, including, but not limited to, education regarding the Charity policy and the hospital's billing procedures.
- Obtains all necessary legal and financial signatures.
- Demonstrates a culture of safety in daily operations.
- Works as a patient advocate to help identifies needs of patients e.g., transportation, interpreter, wheelchair assistance.
- Collects patient payments including payments on account, copays, coinsurance and deductibles as applicable.
- Verifies health insurance eligibility.
- Responsible for calling overhead code pages and drills.
- Captures patient information for transfer to other facilities.
- Interacts with patients, families, and physicians and is the liaison among members of the health care team, patients, and families.
- Requests patient medical records at the request of staff.
- Answers hospital main telephone line and redirects call to appropriate department.
- Performs general copying duties and other duplicating needs as requested.
Qualifications
- Preferred Certification: AA degree.
- One year professional experience in medical field.
- Basic knowledge of medical procedures and medical terminology.
- Current CPR certificate.
- CNA preferred.
- Required Experience: High school diploma/GED or previous experience as a health unit coordinator, patient registration or financial counseling.

- Good working knowledge of English, grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.
- Able to work with constant interruptions.
