About the role

MercyOne Dyersville Medical Center is a 20-bed critical access hospital serving 17 rural communities in western Dubuque County. As a Level IV Community Trauma Care Facility, it offers 24/7 emergency and trauma services, along with acute and skilled inpatient care, ambulatory surgery, home care and specialty clinics. The center includes a fully equipped laboratory, imaging services, retail pharmacy with drive-thru and delivery, and Phase II cardiac rehabilitation tailored to those recovering from heart events. Outpatient and inpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapy are available locally to help patients regain function and independence.

Responsibilities

• Conducts an initial assessment to gather data and completes all areas of the admission assessment database within 24 hours of admission.
• Identifies patient problems and develops them into an outcome/goal-based plan of care, incorporating relevant medical history into the plan of care.
• Analyzes and interprets the assessment data to identify desired patient outcomes/goals, determines nursing interventions to achieve those outcomes/goals, and prioritizes patient care needs/activities.
• Makes appropriate referrals (i.e., Patient/Family Services, Nutritional Services, Spiritual Care, Diabetic Educator, etc.), and educates patients and families on their health needs.
• Supervises and coordinates care provided by LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, and other nursing team members, facilitates communication with physicians, patients and families, and interdisciplinary team members.

Requirements

• Associate degree in nursing required, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Current Iowa RN license.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required, American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required only if the unit has telemetry monitoring capabilities.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
• High language, intermediate to high math, and high critical thinking ability.
• Basic computer skills required.

Qualifications

• Competent in computer systems and applications required for role.
• Prioritizes and implements intervention according to patient assessment.
• Demonstrates competency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and telemetry monitoring.
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to cardiac arrhythmias and other changes in patient condition.
• Manages telemetry and cardiac monitoring when applicable.
• Provides appropriate interventions for patients experiencing cardiac events or changes in rhythm.
• May be required to assist with data collection and quality improvement initiatives.
• Willing to serve as a resource to other hospital services (nursing, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, respiratory, etc.) and participate in unit-based committees and provide education to nursing staff as requested.

Pay

The pay rate for this position is determined based on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

.45 FTE, 12 hours one week and 24 hours the next week. Day shift 6:00 am - 6:30 pm. Rotating weekends and holidays. This unit self-schedules. Schedules are 6-week blocks.
