About the role

Citi's Equity Research team is seeking an Equity Research Senior Associate to support a senior analyst covering the Upstream Energy sector. The role involves contributing to the production of high-quality investment insights that inform decisions for institutional clients across global markets.

Responsibilities

  • Support a senior equity research analyst covering the Upstream Energy sector by contributing to all aspects of the research process, from financial modeling to publication.
  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models for Upstream Energy companies, including earnings forecasts, relative value analyses, and scenario-based frameworks.
  • Aid in authoring equity research products including earnings previews and recaps, initiation reports, and deep-dive thematic notes, to a high standard of analytical rigor and clarity.
  • Respond to client inquiries from both internal stakeholders and external investors, delivering timely and well-reasoned analytical perspectives on covered companies and sector trends.
  • Coordinate investor events including management meetings, company field trips, and expert consultant calls, ensuring seamless execution and strong client experience.
  • Contribute to the team's ongoing Upstream Energy coverage by synthesizing complex, multi-source data into actionable investment insights that support the senior analyst's views.
  • Uphold the highest standards of compliance, ethical conduct, and regulatory adherence in all research activities, ensuring outputs reflect Citi's commitment to objectivity and integrity.

Requirements

  • 5 to 8 years of experience in equity research or a closely related financial analysis discipline, with a track record of supporting senior analysts on complex coverage.
  • Strong foundation in accounting principles and financial modeling, applied within an equity research context.
  • Established experience working alongside senior equity research analysts, with direct exposure to the research publication lifecycle.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly and concisely to institutional clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Active FINRA licenses: SIE, Series 63, Series 86, and Series 87 (or commitment to obtain upon hire).
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.

Skills

  • Beneficial skills and qualifications include an MBA, graduate degree, or CFA designation, reflecting a commitment to advanced financial expertise; sector-specific knowledge of Upstream Energy, including familiarity with exploration and production dynamics, commodity markets, and energy company valuation frameworks; and experience engaging directly with company management teams or institutional investors in a research or advisory capacity.
