Equitable Distribution Hearing Officer

About the Role

The Equitable Distribution Hearing Officer performs a quasi-judicial function created pursuant to the Pennsylvania Rules of Civil Procedure (Pa.R.C.P. Rules 1920.51 and 1920.55-2). The Hearing Officer presides over record hearings and addresses divorce issues. Timely resolutions to matters heard before the Hearing Officer are critical and expected by the Court. Work is performed independently while exercising sound judgment and discretion. Reports directly to the President Judge and Family Administrative Judge.

Schedule

• Full-time position
• Five (5) days per week for forty-eight (48) weeks during the year
• Working hours are dependent on daily scheduling; Court's normal working hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (7 hours per day)

Restrictions

The Hearing Officer shall not practice family law before a conference officer or hearing officer employed by the 38th Judicial District or before a Judge of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas (see Pa.R.C.P. 1920.51(a)(4)).

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
• Admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania
• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a family law practitioner
• Strong knowledge of family law and civil procedure
• Strong knowledge of economic and financial issues
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Basic computer and technology skills

• Office environment
• Must be able to sit for long periods throughout the workday, with intermittent periods of movement necessary to carry out job duties
• Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds
