About the role

Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking a Production Asset Software & Controls Equipment Engineer for the Portland, OR location to support production equipment on the Fabrication program. The role involves designing, procuring, and sustaining electrical/electronic automated equipment used in the manufacture and system functional testing of commercial airplanes. You will also support manual test and production equipment to sustain airplane production. Work may be performed in a team environment or solo, depending on project complexity. Provide real-time support to troubleshoot equipment-related problems that factory personnel cannot diagnose.

Responsibilities

  • Hardware and software evaluation and down-select
  • Implement and validate upgraded hardware & software into automated control systems
  • Implement safety solutions for equipment
  • Analyze data to perform root cause analysis of systemic production issues in automated equipment
  • Develop, test, and evaluate software/hardware changes
  • Design, develop, and support equipment network technology and cybersecurity
  • Collaborate with Operations to develop and design data collection strategies
  • Develop design improvements for new production equipment to address systemic or obsolescence issues
  • Verify equipment specifications (materials and software) in final designs meet requirements
  • Troubleshoot current production issues related to quality, safety, and repeatability
  • Coordinate with affected parties to determine problems and implement solutions
  • Lead and manage projects involving the acquisition or modification of production equipment
  • Develop and release bid and purchase specifications for equipment needs from suppliers
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including fabrication, purchasing, finance, and operations
  • Maintain and improve data collection systems tracking equipment performance metrics (OEE, MTBF, MTTR, machine uptime)
  • Manage projects and comply with industry standards, including electrical and safety codes
  • Develop and implement basic work-arounds and maintain configuration of hardware, software, and documentation
  • Assist in managing projects involving the acquisition or modification of production equipment
  • Generate system specifications from production system requirements
  • Analyze design/build concepts to evaluate producible design/build definitions
  • Investigate alternative solutions to meet producibility requirements
  • Work in a cross-functional team alongside manufacturing, quality, safety, services, research and technology, suppliers, and vendors

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry (ABET is preferred but not required)
  • 3 or more years of related engineering work experience

Skills

  • 3 or more years of experience working in a production environment (preferred)
  • 3 or more years of experience in electrical and electronic systems (preferred)
  • Electrical or Computer Engineering Degree or equivalent (preferred)
  • Experience with systems diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of industrial networking, servers, and databases
  • Programming experience with C#, Java, Visual Basic, or similar
  • PLC programming experience (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Fanuc, or similar)
  • Experience with Automated Test Equipment (PXI, PCI, VXI, IEEE-488, RS-485, Can bus)
  • Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) using AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, or Catia
  • Experience administering Windows operating systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products (Windows, Office, Project, Visual Studio, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills for technical information
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team

Pay

65 - 70 USD hourly
