Equipment Technician
About the role
Total Safety is seeking an Equipment Technician to join our safety-conscious team. The Equipment Tech is responsible for maintaining and repairing various gas monitoring systems and breathing air equipment.
Responsibilities
- Receiving, inspecting, cleaning, servicing, reassembling, and testing SCBA and other respirator equipment according to approved procedures.
- Aiding in stocking shelves with clean, tested, and ready-to-use equipment, pulling, staging, and loading customer orders.
- Maintaining work areas and other areas in a clean and organized manner.
- Performing routine inspections and maintenance on breathing air regulators and reducers.
- Completing documentation and data entry related to inspections and repairs, obtaining customer signatures for invoicing and documentation.
- Conducting detailed visual inspections and system functional tests, reporting deficiencies and making recommendations to customers.
- Assessing repair needs and quoting prices and delivery times for repairs or replacements.
- Obtaining and reviewing work permits, correcting any mistakes, setting up jobs according to procedures, and ensuring proper PPE is available and worn.
- Ensuring safety protocols are followed during work, maintaining communication with the crew, and completing job completions.
- Assisting others as needed and performing additional duties after training.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Associates degree, technical, or military training preferred.
- At least one (1) year of field experience in fire protection, petrochemical, oil refinery, or related industries.
- Valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance.
- Ability to pass internal forklift certification.

- Understand and comply with relevant regulatory standards.

- Use and care for appropriate PPE.
- Pass internal respiratory protection certification.
- Work effectively in a team environment.
- Communicate clearly and effectively.

- Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
- Industrial customer sites.
- Frequent exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, outside weather conditions, and vibration.
- Exposure to high-pressure, chemicals, and shop traffic.
- Noise levels are usually moderate with hearing protection required in some areas.
Reporting Relationships
This position works under direct supervision and follows established procedures and standard practices to perform assigned tasks. No direct reports, but may assist less experienced personnel.
