JOB SUMMARY
The Equipment Supervisor is responsible for leading and supporting the Equipment Technician team while also serving as a hands-on technical resource in the field. This role combines supervisory responsibilities with active participation in equipment installation, start-ups, troubleshooting, maintenance, and customer support at industrial customer sites.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Schedule Equipment Technicians and coordinate upcoming service and installation work, including reviewing job scope, staging materials, ordering parts, and ensuring readiness for execution
- Provide hands-on field leadership by supporting equipment installations, start-ups, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repairs, system upgrades, and performance optimization activities at customer sites
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, plumbing, instrumentation, and controls-related equipment issues while ensuring work is completed in accordance with P&IDs, electrical schematics, GA drawings, and customer specifications
- Train, mentor, and develop Equipment Technicians on installation methods, troubleshooting techniques, safety practices, documentation standards, and professional customer communication
- Serve as a key liaison between customers and internal teams including Sales, Project Management, Engineering, Production, and Customer Service to support successful execution of equipment projects and service activities
- Maintain strong customer relationships by providing professional on-site representation, addressing concerns proactively, and supporting customer training during commissioning and service visits
- Oversee modem and remote communication services, including system start-ups, connectivity troubleshooting, and coordination of replacements
- Review and ensure timely completion of service documentation, maintaining accurate service records and supporting reporting and quoting activities as needed
- Support equipment inventory management, including monitoring stock levels, coordinating replenishment, and maintaining company-issued vehicles, tools, and on-board materials in a safe and organized manner
- Promote safe work practices by ensuring compliance with Apex and customer safety policies and overseeing inspection, maintenance, and replacement of PPE and department equipment
- Identify opportunities to improve service quality, installation efficiency, scheduling effectiveness, and overall team productivity while practicing fiscal responsibility
- Support implementation of company policies, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives within the equipment function
- Travel regularly to customer sites to provide supervision, technical support, and hands-on service as required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years of supervisory or team leadership experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Experience with installation and repair of water treatment equipment such as water softeners and reverse osmosis systems
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills with the ability to work effectively with customers and internal teams
- Organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), SharePoint and ERP systems
- Ability and willingness to support process improvements and help implement company policies, procedures, and operational standards
- Ability and willingness to work in a variety of environments, including those that are loud and non-air conditioned
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time
- Commitment to maintaining safety, quality, and operational standards in all work activities
- Valid driver's license and willingness to adhere to all company vehicle policies
- Willingness to travel to customer sites throughout the region, as needed, including occasional overnight travel outside of assigned region (estimated at 2 nights/month, on average)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations, Business or related field
- Two (2) plus years of supervisory or team leadership experience
- Previous experience as an Equipment Supervisor or Manager
- Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)
- Experience with chemical handling (i.e. transfer or blending of chemicals)
- Water Operator Certification
- Familiarity with the following types of equipment: Advantage Controls, Prominent, Iwaki, Walchem, Lakewood, LMI, Pulsafeeder, Stenner, Seametrics, Fleck, Clack, Marlo, Shelco, Turner Designs, Worcester, Belimo, copper silver ionization, and ultraviolet (UV) lights
- Ability to type at least 30 words per minute
