About the role
The Module Equipment Sr. Engineer (Machine) is responsible for the manufacturing of solar modules, which consists of soldering, inspection, mechanical assembly, and machinery management, all in accordance with high industry standards and within manufacturing timescales.
Responsibilities
- Lead engineers and Jr. Engineers with mentorship abilities
- Collect data, analyze machines, and self-manage without direct supervision
- Run diagnostic tests and repair malfunctioning equipment across all plant automation
- Commission control systems, troubleshoot operational issues, and perform equipment and process instrumentation calibration (flow and pressure transmitters, level sensors)
- Perform preventative maintenance; maintain stock of critical spares; input data into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); execute work orders; back up programs; keep prints and manuals current
- Create solid models and detail drawings using established SolidWorks CAD guidelines and department design procedures
- Troubleshoot programmable logic control (PLC), HMI, VRV, motor, and motor control problems
- Perform root cause failure analysis for failed parts and use materials/fabrication knowledge to design improvements
- Identify critical machine components and analyze critical design features to ensure reliability in the final operating environment
- Drive operational improvement and cost reduction by enhancing industrial control schemes
- Complete assigned work orders, write work requests, and collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and repair processing and solar module equipment
- Support development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of solar module equipment
- Demonstrate strong electrical skills and troubleshooting for high- and low-voltage processes
- Adhere to Hanwha Q CELLS USA, Inc. policies and procedures
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management without direct supervision
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechatronics preferred) or related field
- 5+ years of related experience
- Machine design experience including specification of bearings, drive train components, and design of fabricated components for proper fit and assembly
- Proficiency with SolidWorks (explorer, sheet metal, toolbox, bill of materials, weldments)
- Materials knowledge (corrosion, failure mechanisms, strength of materials)
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office applications, and project management tools
- Experience with project management, finite element, or other mechanical analysis software and PDM systems (Synergis Adept experience is desirable)
- Ability to tolerate a fast-paced work environment in non-climate-controlled areas
- Assertive, able to cope with pressure, and a team player
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk the production area throughout the workday
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without restriction
- Capable of reaching, pushing, pulling, or lifting as required within limits set by Hanwha Q CELLS USA, Inc.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
