Equipment Specialist - Automotive (Mechanic)

About the role

The Equipment Specialist - Automotive (Mechanic) position is responsible for maintaining the operational readiness of the automotive fleet and related equipment. Responsibilities include inspecting, testing, performing corrective actions, preparing new vehicles for assimilation into the Fleet, conducting technical research, and ensuring assigned vehicles are operational in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.

Responsibilities

• Performs vehicle maintenance and inspections to include anti-lock brakes, air conditioning systems, and anti-theft devices.
• Uses computer programs and diagnostic systems to perform operational assessments of vehicles.
• Maintains liaison with internal customers and external vendors to gain information, answer questions, and resolve problems.
• Reviews and analyzes information and documents related to vehicle warranties, services, and supplies.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must have (or be able to obtain) a valid driver’s license.
• Some travel may be required.
• Frequent exposure to cuts, bruises, shocks, burns, and stains.
• Frequent lifting of parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds, and occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing 50 pounds or more.
• Exposure to vehicle fluids such as battery acid and hydraulic fluids.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-7 grade level, performing vehicle maintenance and inspections to include anti-lock brakes, air conditioning systems, and anti-theft devices.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-9 grade level, performing vehicle maintenance and inspections to include hybrid vehicles, drive assistance systems, air bag systems, electronic systems, vehicle networks and communication systems.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 grade level, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and inspecting vehicles for assimilation into a Fleet.

Desired Skills

• Experience in the automotive repair/maintenance field with formal education or nationally recognized certification in diagnostic scan tool familiarization.
• EPA recognized refrigerant handling certification.
• State emissions or state level safety inspection license.
• Inspection and maintenance with emergency lighting systems.

Pay

• GS-9: $52,727.00 - $68,549.00
• GS-11: $63,795.00 - $82,938.00

Schedule

• Working hours: 8:15am – 5:00pm, may vary depending on Division needs.
