About the role
The Equipment Specialist - Automotive (Mechanic) position is responsible for maintaining the operational readiness of the automotive fleet and related equipment. Responsibilities include inspecting, testing, performing corrective actions, preparing new vehicles for integration into the fleet, conducting technical research, and ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications.
Responsibilities
- Performs vehicle maintenance and inspections, including anti-lock brakes, air conditioning systems, and anti-theft devices.
- Uses computer programs and diagnostic systems to assess vehicle operation.
- Maintains liaison with internal and external customers and vendors to address issues and provide solutions.
- Analyzes technical data to ensure the effective operation of vehicular and non-vehicular equipment.
- Ensures appropriate registration, including tags, titles, and state inspections.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Some travel may be required.
- Frequent exposure to hazards such as cuts, burns, and irritants.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications
- Experience in the automotive repair/maintenance field or nationally recognized certification in diagnostic scan tool familiarization.
- Education is not required for this position; specialized experience can be used in lieu of a degree.
Desired Skills
- Experience with EPA recognized refrigerant handling certification.
- State emissions or safety inspection licenses.
- Inspection and maintenance with emergency lighting systems.

Pay
Salary range for this position is GS 9: $52,727.00 - $68,549.00 and GS 11: $63,795.00 - $82,938.00. Additional selections may be made from this announcement to fill positions within the same division.
Schedule
Working hours are 8:15am – 5:00pm, may vary depending on Division needs.
