About the role
The Equipment Specialist - Automotive (Mechanic) position is responsible for all phases of vehicle maintenance, from initial inspection and diagnosis to coordinating and administering repairs. The position requires an associate or bachelor's degree in the automotive repair/maintenance field or comprehensive knowledge of automotive diagnostics.
Responsibilities
- Maintains operational readiness of the automotive fleet and related equipment.
- Performs routine vehicle maintenance and inspections, including oil changes, brake inspections, tire rotations, and battery replacements.
- Conducts technical research and obtains additional facts to determine past equipment performance and previous corrective actions.
- Ensures assigned vehicles comply with manufacturer's specifications and appropriate registration, including tags, titles, and state inspections.
- Performs operational assessments of vehicles using computer programs and diagnostic systems.
- Maintains and updates vehicle records and inventories.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must have (or be able to obtain) a valid driver’s license.
- Some travel may be required.
Qualifications
- Experience in the automotive repair/maintenance field or comprehensive knowledge of automotive diagnostics.
- Desired skills include EPA recognized refrigerant handling certification, state emissions or safety inspection licenses, and experience with emergency lighting systems.

GS 7: $50,460.00 - $65,599.00
GS 9: $61,722.00 - $80,243.00
Schedule
Working hours: 8:15am – 5:00pm, may vary depending on Division needs.
