Equipment Specialist

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains specialized equipment for asphalt crack sealing.
• Performs preventative maintenance on various types of heavy equipment.
• Ensures compliance with safety standards during operations.
• Contributes to the upkeep of vital public infrastructure.
• Performs skilled operations of equipment such as patch trucks, street sweeper, concrete breaker, dump truck, compactor, picker truck, and loader.
• Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed.
• Performs traffic control activities as needed.
• Reports safety hazards and traffic problems.
• Performs manual labor associated with street maintenance and construction.
• Maintains the Baytown Green Center and participates in operations (for Solid Waste Only).
• Operates and maintains brush or stake bed (for Solid Waste Only).
• Loads by hand when necessary (for Solid Waste Only).
• Performs personnel related duties including training and coaching (for Solid Waste Only).
• Maintains grounds - mowing, weed eating, sweeping, picking up trash, cleaning around containers, and all landscaping maintenance (for Solid Waste Only).

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Six months of related experience.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).
• Valid State of Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver’s License, or must be obtained within six months of date in position.

Qualifications

• Ability to operate equipment including sweeper, patch truck, and dump trucks.
• Ability to keep accurate maintenance, sweeping, and patching records.
• Knowledge of City streets.
• Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.
• Ability to operate and maintain all types of equipment used in collection of brush (for Solid Waste Only).
• Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public (for Solid Waste Only).
• Ability to work around cash and write receipts to customers (for Solid Waste Only).
• Ability to perform maintenance duties as needed (for Solid Waste Only).

Skills

• Operate heavy equipment such as patch trucks, street sweeper, concrete breaker, dump truck, compactor, picker truck, backhoe, loader, and assorted hand and pneumatic tools.
• Perform traffic control activities and report safety hazards and traffic problems.
• Utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed.
• Recognize, avoid, and report unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
• Perform skilled and semiskilled construction, maintenance, and general labor work in the maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, driveways, alleys, drainage, and asphalt repairs.
• Operate and maintain brush or stake bed (for Solid Waste Only).
• Load by hand when necessary (for Solid Waste Only).
• Train and coach personnel (for Solid Waste Only).
• Maintain grounds - mowing, weed eating, sweeping, picking up trash, cleaning around containers, and all landscaping maintenance (for Solid Waste Only).
