Equipment Service Technician
About the Role
As a trusted STERIS advisor, the Equipment Service Technician drives an exceptional customer experience by providing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, equipment modifications, calibration, validation, and installation support on various mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic units. This role involves proactive daily customer interaction and completion of associated administrative tasks. This is a safety-sensitive position covering the greater Chicago area.
Responsibilities
- Drive customer satisfaction through proactive communication and commitment to resolving customer issues expediently.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on STERIS and related product lines in a safe and efficient manner using schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Complete administrative duties to ensure effective planning, utilization, and required paperwork completion.
- Develop and maintain effective, communicative relationships with customers, managers, support functions, and the sales organization.
- Communicate scheduling for preventative maintenance and estimated time of arrival for unscheduled work.
- Proactively respond to and resolve customer problems, utilizing product and industry knowledge to exceed service expectations.
- Identify sales opportunities and recommend STERIS products/services to customers; communicate leads to management and sales staff.
- Act as a positive ambassador for STERIS at customer sites.
- Respond to routine customer and sales questions regarding equipment operation, performance, sizing, utility requirements, and pre-installation evaluations.
- Provide timely service calls, warranty calls, field upgrade programs, and other support as needed.
- Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor when working with customers, contractors, management, and fellow employees.
- Follow customer protocols for entering and exiting facilities and abide by all STERIS and customer health & safety protocols.
Requirements
- High School Diploma with 2 years of experience in repair and maintenance of equipment, or similar experience.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to work flexible hours, sometimes outside “normal business hours,” and travel as required.
- Must be compliant with hospital/customer credentialing requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in electronics, mechanical, or a similar discipline.
- Competitive/competitor equipment training or related military experience.
- General knowledge of cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) and GEP (Good Engineering Practice) used in pharmaceutical and research environments.
- Strong technical and troubleshooting skills.
- General knowledge of sterilization principles and methods, steam systems, sterilizers, and other decontamination methods.
- Strong customer communication skills with the ability to build positive rapport.
- Proficiency with computers, Windows software, and web technologies.
- Ability to work independently without supervision.
- Flexibility to handle multiple and changing priorities.

Pay
Pay range for this opportunity is $61,412.50 - $72,250.00. This position is eligible for bonus participation. Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than the range listed. Pay rates are based on factors including local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, and foreign language fluency.
