Organizational Responsibilities
This class reports to the Equipment Maintenance Supervisor or Lead Equipment Mechanic. No supervision is exercised.
Qualification Guidelines
- Education & Experience: Graduation from High School or GED is required. Current enrollment or completion of mechanical trade courses is highly desired. Six months of preventative maintenance experience with automotive and power-driven equipment required.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of tools, equipment, techniques, and procedures used in the maintenance, repair, and adjustment of automotive, construction, 2-cycle, and other heavy equipment; lubricating oils and greases.
- Skills And Abilities: Ability to perform preventative maintenance, make basic mechanical repairs, and to assist in the more difficult repairs of a wide variety of automotive and power driven equipment; skills in troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing the more routine faulty operating and mechanical troubles; ability to keep accurate records and assist in preparing reports on the preventative maintenance program; follow oral and written instructions; use independent judgment in recognizing and resolving problems dealing with the preventative maintenance program; ability to read and comprehend automotive and equipment maintenance and repair manuals.
- Licenses Requirements: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Class C California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License at the time of appointment and as a continuing condition of employment.

- Physical Effort: Performs tasks requiring physical effort, including bending, stooping, and heavy lifting.
