Equipment Operator - NON-UNION

About the role

This position operates heavy equipment of various types to remove branches and tree material from electrical lines. Asplundh has been dedicated to safe, efficient, and innovative line clearance services to the utility industry since 1928. The company provides vegetation management services to utilities, municipalities, railroads, pipelines, helicopter vegetation services, and departments of transportation.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment such as bulldozers, backhoes, skid steers, excavators, loaders, dump trucks, mowers, and stump grinders.
• Transports equipment to and from multi-state job locations.
• Installs and removes gates, fences, and barbed wire.
• Installs and removes culverts, rocks, and base materials.
• Works on prepared rock and base by highways, side roads, and on the right-of-way.
• Uses a chainsaw to cut brush, logs, and stumps of larger trees.
• Gathers brush and feeds it into a wood chipper.
• Applies chemical herbicide to right-of-way following brush removal (when applicable).
• Utilizes hose and spray nozzle from truck-mounted spray equipment or backpack sprayers for remote areas.
• Services trucks, chippers, and equipment, maintaining them in neat, clean, and specified mechanical order.
• Assists senior spray personnel in mixing herbicide in holding tanks (when applicable).
• Works around hazardous equipment, excessive noise, and varying weather conditions.
• Works on unleveled ground and around falling limbs with protection.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Possesses working knowledge and ability to identify tree and shrub species.
• Familiar with electrical hazards.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Must have transportation to and from the show-up location.

Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and/or motor vehicle record (MVR) check.

Physical Requirements

• Rare (less than 10%): sitting, kneeling, crawling, color vision, climbing stairs.
• Occasional (up to 33%): stooping, squatting, climbing on/off truck, reading, pushing, climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Frequent (up to 66%): walking, body twisting, manual dexterity, speaking clearly, hearing-speech range, lifting, carrying, pulling, balancing, lifting up to 10 lbs.
• Continuous (up to 100%): standing, sense of touch, seeing distant, climbing, gripping, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., seeing, reaching, range of motion, depth perception.
