Responsibilities
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate milling machines, skid steer, and/or broom manipulating hand or foot levers to control speed, depth, and cutting patterns.
- Site Preparation & Execution: Set up and adjust controls to meet project specifications, ensuring accurate grade and alignment.
- Maintenance: Perform daily inspections, greasing, and maintenance of the milling drum, conveyors, and teeth to ensure proper working condition. Report any malfunctions or equipment failures to Superintendent or Shop Manager.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with the crew, guide dump trucks for loading, and ensure efficient workflow.
- Work Productively and Safely: Meet production goals while being aware of hazards, people, and vehicles in the surrounding area and work zone.
- Follow Verbal Instructions: Willing and able to follow verbal instructions.
- Complete Reports: Fully complete the end of the week equipment report accurately and timely.
- Assist with Cleaning: Assist with cleaning, handwork, or any additional needs necessary to complete the job.
Physical Requirements
- The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.
- The ability to exert one's self physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath.
- Able to understand and carry out verbal and or written directions paying attention to detail.
- Able to lift and carry heavy loads of 40 to 50 pounds or more on a daily basis;
- Comfort working in extreme temperatures (heat and cold), humidity, and dusty environments for periods of 10-12 hours.
Qualifications
- High School diploma/GED.
- Prior construction or paving experience preferred but not required.
- Proven experience operating heavy machinery, specifically asphalt milling equipment.
- Ability to read project plans and understand grade control.
- Possesses a strong work ethic, teamwork and respect to all individuals.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, have an acceptable driving record, and have reliable transportation.
- Candidates must be able to work overtime, nights, and weekends, as projects demand.
- Candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test as well as random tests if selected during employment.
