Examples of Duties
- Operates various Utilities wastewater mainline cleaning equipment
- Maneuvers equipment to job sites
- Communicates with coordinators, other operators, and crew members regarding various aspects of the job
- Assists crews with manual labor and SSO cleanup as needed
- Completes a pre-trip inspection of equipment and vehicle
- Sets up and maintains a safe work environment
- May include operating easement clearing equipment, operating a jet truck, and/or assisting a CCTV crew
Typical Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures
- Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws
- Thorough knowledge of industry standard and department specific equipment and materials
- Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
- Ability to perform manual labor
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public
Physical Requirements
- Frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force
- Occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force
- Work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions
- Frequent standing, walking and lifting
- Occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound
- Work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to bloodborne pathogens, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and wearing a self contained breathing apparatus
- May be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment
- Work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic)
Special Requirements
- Possession of at least a North Carolina CDL Class B upon hire
- Possession of or ability to obtain Tanker endorsement within six (6) months
- Mandatory on-call rotation
