About the role

The City of Fayetteville's Public Services Department is seeking an Equipment Operator III for the Solid Waste Division. This position operates medium and heavy power-driven equipment requiring a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), including refuse trucks, yard waste trucks, excavators, road-graders, knuckle boom trucks, and other similar equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and assist with the collection of municipal solid waste, recycling materials, and other debris removal from City streets and rights-of-way.
  • Maintain and upkeep streets, rights-of-way, parks, cemeteries, and other City property.
  • Perform maintenance and construction tasks such as excavating, grading, loading, and cleaning debris.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and others through various communication technologies.
  • Respond to emergencies, weather events, and public inquiries.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience involving the skilled operation of refuse equipment or heavy construction and maintenance equipment in parks, cemeteries, horticultural environments, street repair/maintenance or related fields.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Required possession of a Class B CDL and ability to maintain insurability.

Qualifications

  • Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.
  • Experience operating heavy construction or maintenance equipment.
  • Experience driving solid or liquid waste vehicles.
  • Experience working in a municipal environment.
  • Willingness to work in outdoor conditions, including inclement weather.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift more than 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work a 10-hour shift on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with occasional Wednesday shifts.

Pay
