About the role
The Equipment Operator II position is part of the City of Wilmington’s stormwater drainage system and public roads maintenance team. This role requires the operation of various pieces of specialized equipment and the ability to perform manual labor.
Responsibilities
- Operate front end loaders, skid steers, asphalt rollers, large pumps, excavators, mini excavators, skid steers, backhoes, zippers, pavers, dozers, road patchers, air boats, boom mowers, and other equipment.
- Install or repair pipes and drainage structures, remove debris, manage vegetation, and perform ditch cleaning.
- Assist crew members, inspect and secure equipment, and complete daily forms and logs.
- Perform construction repairs and maintenance on drainage systems, including pipe, catch basins, manholes, open channels, creeks, ditches, and ponds.
- Operate backhoes for digging, trenching, and clearing land or materials for maintenance, repair, and construction projects.
- Maintain records and logs of all work performed and complete basic preventive maintenance on equipment as required.
- Assist with storm preparation and clean-up, set up traffic barriers for special events, and perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, with vocational or technical training in the operation of CDL-operated vehicles.
- At least one year of experience in construction, maintenance, grounds keeping, or a related field.
- At least one year of experience operating the types of equipment identified in this class.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Class B within 90 days of hire.
