About the Role

Oversees all maintenance operations of one or more operating companies. Schedules and directs the activities of the maintenance shop personnel, across various shifts, to service and repair vehicles and equipment, including maintenance and repairs of the yard, maintenance shop, and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all maintenance operations, ensuring maintenance personnel adhere to established policies for inspection, maintenance, and repair of vehicles and equipment, and follow all company policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements (as applicable).
  • Authorizes and arranges procurement of parts, supplies, tools, and machinery.
  • Contracts for services not performed in-house.
  • Consults with Vice-President of Fleet and operations management, making recommendations on vehicle and equipment replacement needs.
  • Participates in the budget-making process pertaining to maintenance operations.
  • Administers periodic inspection and audit of company vehicles, equipment, and facilities to ensure safe, efficient, effective, and compliant maintenance operations.
  • Identifies potential safety hazards and takes appropriate action to ensure personnel safety.
  • Investigates and evaluates the cause, extent, and financial impacts of damage to equipment due to failures and vehicles involved in accidents.
  • Drives a Company vehicle as required from time to time.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Valid Class "A" or “B” Driver’s License with no air brake or automatic transmission restrictions required within six months of hire.
  • Eight years of related industry experience, including four years in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing maintenance operations, job site safety protocols, and potential job hazards.
  • Experience administering comprehensive fleet and equipment preventative maintenance programs.
  • Experience and knowledge of Federal D.O.T. Out-of-Service Criteria, including CHP B.I.T. Inspections and DOT compliance audits.
  • Experience and knowledge of inventory control processes.
  • Experience and knowledge of fabrication skills preferred.
  • Ability to perform routine calculations and write reports and correspondence.
  • Experience working in a refuse/recycling maintenance facility or related environment with heavy vehicles, landfill equipment, and processing equipment (such as balers, conveyors, hoppers, electric motors, and controls) preferred.
  • Experience managing union personnel preferred.
  • Understanding of employee training, supervision, and evaluation principles.
  • Proficiency in supervisory techniques, resource allocation, planning, and budgeting.
