About the role

This Epidemiologist 2 position focuses on infectious diseases with environmental health components. Under general supervision, the Epidemiologist 2 develops, plans, and conducts epidemiologic investigations, public health surveillance, and interventions limited in scope and/or complexity. The role involves substantial communication with members of the public and community partners in verbal and written formats.

This role is based at Richardson Health Center within the Office of Epidemiology.

Responsibilities

• Collect, analyze, and interpret statistical data and prepare epidemiologic reports.
• Carry out a broad and complex range of analytical epidemiologic activities related to the surveillance, detection, prevention, and control of notifiable diseases.
• Follow up on notifiable conditions including animal bites and other rabies exposures (including rabies post-exposure prophylaxis), foodborne illness outbreaks, vector-borne illnesses, legionellosis, and others.
• Serve as an intermediate-level professional epidemiologist, working both independently and as an experienced team member.
• Guide Tier 1 Epidemiologists in conducting public health surveillance, project management, and analytic pursuits.

Requirements

• Master's degree in public health or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND two years of experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field.
• OR Bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited college or university AND three years of experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field.
• OR Two years of experience at the lower-level Epidemiologist 1 (HCP180) or position equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

• Environmental health background.
• Experience demonstrating competence in conducting epidemiologic investigations, public health surveillance, epidemiologic data analysis, public health interventions, and implementing control measures.

Pay

$66,309.52 annually / Pay Grade M / Job Code HCP181.

Schedule

Full-time salaried position. Core working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:15 AM to 5:00 PM.
