About the role

The Environmental Technician is responsible for performing environmental inspections, data management, and reporting to comply with environmental compliance programs, permit requirements, and corporate environmental policies, standards, procedures, and strategic environmental goals within their assigned region, plant, and project scope.

Responsibilities

  • Perform environmental inspections within the assigned region using AEP approved forms and methods within regulatory time frames.
  • Communicate deviations appropriately.
  • Collect data as needed to support environmental compliance reporting using AEP approved methods.
  • Prepare and submit reports as assigned.
  • Advise and quality assure field activities in support of the assigned region to ensure compliance with environmental laws and permits.
  • Provide training instruction and assistance to others on the implementation of environmental permit and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote and enforce (see something, say something, do something) safe work practices to safeguard employees, contractors, the general public, and Company facilities.
  • Provide support during environmental compliance reviews.
  • Effectively communicate environmental compliance issues to appropriate internal parties.

Requirements

  • Maintain all environmental documents and records in accordance with environmental content management standards.
  • Safe driving techniques and practices are essential due to considerable time spent driving from one AEP asset to another.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School diploma or preferred associate or bachelor's degree in an environmental, science, or related discipline. Previous military experience will be considered to meet the associate degree requirement.
  • Experience: Minimum of three years of experience with an associate degree. At least one year of experience with a bachelor’s degree. Minimum of five years of experience with a high school diploma.
