Mission

Iowa State University is hiring an Environmental Systems Mechanic II to help maintain heating, cooling, and ventilation systems across student housing. This is a full time, steady position offering a variety of hands-on HVAC work, including preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs across residence halls and apartment communities.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration systems
  • Troubleshoot system issues, including air balancing, steam systems, and equipment controls
  • Calibrate thermostats, sensors, and other electronic control components
  • Perform preventative maintenance and complete daily work orders
  • Respond to HVAC related service calls and resolve issues efficiently

What You’ll Do

You will work both independently and as part of a skilled trades team to keep building systems operating safely and efficiently. With a variety of buildings and equipment, each day brings new challenges while still offering a consistent schedule and a supportive team environment.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 7:30AM to 4:00PM, with participation in an on call rotation.

  • Work in a variety of environments, including mechanical rooms and residential spaces
  • Physical, hands-on work with exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and equipment
