Environmental Specialist - Refinery

Coordinates all onsite activities at client location related to the storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes and other related services in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Supervises and plans activities of onsite personnel, serves as liaison between client and vendors, and maintains safety and environmental standards.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (exact hours may vary based on business and customer needs)
  • Ability to work turnaround schedule is required

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate logistics for transportation of hazardous waste, universal waste, and non-hazardous waste from client site, including profiling, scheduling, manifesting, and physically loading bulk and drum loads
  • Ensure compliance with client and government regulations by performing necessary inspections and reporting
  • Resolve all issues in a timely manner
  • Assist with client and vendor financial obligations, including invoicing, reporting, and contracts
  • Promote a culture of safety by ensuring site personnel are properly trained to perform assigned duties and comply with safety, environmental, federal, state, and local regulations
  • Complete quarterly training as required

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree (accredited) in Environmental Sciences, Accounting, Business, or related field or High School Diploma or GED (accredited) plus 2 years of relevant work experience
  • 1 year of relevant work experience (in addition to the education requirement)
  • RCRA and DOT regulatory compliance experience upon hire
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (or equivalent) or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
  • Manifesting and profiling hazardous and non-hazardous waste experience required upon hire
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • TWIC Card or ability to obtain prior to starting
  • Ability to pass a respirator FIT test
  • Pre-assignment and/or pre-hire customer-specific drug and/or alcohol testing may be required (e.g., urinalysis, oral swab, drug hair follicle testing, and/or alcohol testing)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior leadership experience
  • Previous refinery experience
  • Waste coordination experience
  • Ability to read analytical reports from labs
  • CA Hazardous Waste Management Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
  • Haz Mat Ground Shippers Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment

This job operates in a mix of office and plant/field environments and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copy machines. The role is designated as safety-sensitive, requiring strict compliance with all safety rules and protocols. The successful candidate may be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment screening, post-incident evaluations, reasonable suspicion checks, and random testing, in accordance with government regulations and company policies.

Pay

The expected base pay range for this on-site position is $77,000 – $83,000 annually. The specific salary offered may be influenced by factors such as relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
