Environmental Specialist
About the role
Michael Baker is seeking an experienced Environmental Specialist to join our growing team in Ocean Springs. In this role, you'll collaborate with a highly skilled team of environmental scientists, planners, and engineers to support a diverse portfolio of transportation and infrastructure projects throughout the region. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional who enjoys balancing office-based technical work with hands-on field investigations. You'll play a key role in guiding projects through the environmental review process while helping clients deliver sustainable, community-focused solutions.
Responsibilities
- Support environmental planning and compliance efforts, including the preparation of Feasibility Studies, Categorical Exclusions (CEs), Environmental Assessments (EAs), and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs).
- Conduct field investigations and collect environmental data.
- Prepare professional technical reports, permit documentation, maps, exhibits, tables, charts, and other project deliverables.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop practical and environmentally responsible project solutions.
- Assist with public meetings, stakeholder engagement efforts, and community outreach activities.
- Travel periodically for field assignments, including occasional overnight travel, primarily within Mississippi.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, or a related field.
- 5+ years of environmental consulting, planning, or regulatory compliance experience.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with GIS is preferred.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
Pay
The approximate compensation range for this position is $59,910 - $85,047 per year. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
