Environmental Specialist

Schedule

Monday – Friday, after hours as needed due to business necessity

Responsibilities

• Serve as the field-level Subject Matter Expert (SME) in complying with environmental regulations applicable to company operations, supporting southeast New Mexico oil and gas gathering and processing assets, including gas plants, compressor stations, and associated gathering systems.
• Assist operations in achieving EHS goals with respect to environmental compliance.
• Assist management, operations, and project/maintenance teams to assure compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate rules and regulations pertaining to operational environmental aspects and impacts.
• Organize, plan, implement, and audit environmental programs and policies for the operation, ensuring compliance as required by regulatory agencies and corporate policy.
• Ensure compliance with Title V operating permits and New Source Review (NSR) permits, including preparation of semiannual deviation reports and annual compliance certifications.
• Oversee LDAR programs to ensure proper data capture and reporting in alignment with federal and state requirements.
• Prepare annual air emissions inventories, calculate hourly emissions, and report through NMED’s online portal as needed.
• Manage data in the EHS database to ensure emissions are calculated correctly and tracked against permit limits.
• Review MOC’s for environmental impacts, including NSR compliance, and document necessary information or initiate the permitting process when required.
• Assist with waste management activities, ensuring regulatory compliance, including tracking manifests and regulatory reporting under numerous applicable regulations (e.g., CERCLA, EPCRA, SARA).
• Ensure compliance with SPCC requirements and assist with spill response and remediation activities, including required reporting to NMED and/or NMOCD.
• Ensure compliance with corporate policies, including reporting releases to all applicable agencies and internal personnel.
• Serve as point of contact for regulatory agencies and operations on required reports, payments, inspections, and other regulatory requirements.
• Assist with compliance audits and facilitate resolution of action items from findings of reviews, inspections, and incident investigations.
• Maintain a working knowledge of existing and proposed regulations that affect the plant, compressor station, or pipeline site.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental study or an engineering discipline.
• 3-5 years of experience working in the Environmental field, preferably with experience in air regulations and Oil and Gas Operations.
• Experience with Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) and other gas detection methods preferred.
• Strong software skills in Microsoft products, specifically Excel. Promax experience preferred.

Working Conditions

• Office environment with prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
• Outdoor work in adverse or extreme weather conditions.
• Frequent driving to other field facilities within the assigned region.
• Available outside of normal working hours as needed for business necessity.

• Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
• Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Work effectively in all noted working conditions.
• Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record satisfactory to the company.
