About the Role

Performs daily cleaning tasks for resident rooms, nursing stations, lounges, restrooms, offices, and any other assigned areas in accordance with standard procedures of the Environmental Services Department and facility standards. Handles laundry operations including receiving, sorting, washing, drying, folding, tracking, and delivering laundry within the Children’s Center, following prescribed standards.

Responsibilities

  • Understands and promotes the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
  • Supports and promotes the mission, philosophy, policies, and objectives of the Children’s Center.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Performs environmental services-related tasks with a service-oriented approach for residents, staff, visitors, and fellow employees.
  • Cleans resident rooms, offices, corridors, stairways, furniture, restrooms, shower rooms, and other assigned areas using prescribed methods:
    • High dusting, sanitizing, and spot cleaning.
    • Bathroom cleaning, emptying wastebaskets, and floor dusting or carpet vacuuming.
    • Cleans wheelchairs and other assigned equipment.
    • Damp-wipes stairway treads and railings.
    • Operates wet/dry vacuum units, carpet vacuums, steamers, and pressure washers.
    • Damp-wipes furniture, cleans and polishes metal and porcelain fixtures.
    • Mops and sanitizes floors, washes walls, and spot-cleans walls and windows.
    • Polishes metal and surfaces, replenishes bathroom supplies.
    • Performs "check-out" cleaning as assigned.
    • Scrubs or buffs floors, vacuums and shampoos carpets.
    • Assists with stripping and refinishing hard surface floors.
  • Transports waste and disposes of it in the compactor or holding area.
  • Cycle cleans induction units, light fixtures, windows, ceilings, and walls.
  • Measures and mixes cleaning chemicals.
  • Assists in cleaning emergency spills when observed or upon request.
  • Maintains assigned equipment and recommends repairs as needed.
  • Observes and reports the need for repairs to equipment, furniture, building, and fixtures.
  • Collects, sorts, and weighs soiled laundry, linen, and garments, placing them in appropriate containers.
  • Sorts, counts, and washes soiled laundry and linen according to established procedures.
  • Inspects and sorts linen, records and returns rejects to laundry.
  • Folds clean linen and delivers covered carts to all user locations.
  • Takes count of unused linen from previous delivery and replenishes linen according to established PAR level.
  • Loads/unloads washers and dryers, washes and irons staff uniforms.
  • Prints and hot labels residents' clothing.
  • Maintains log for linen closets, documents unused linen, and reports discrepancies.
  • Maintains the linen room in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Assists in resident evacuation during fire or internal disaster.
  • Assists nursing in preparing for external disasters (e.g., making extra beds, delivering extra linen).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor, department director, or administrator.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma preferred.
  • 2-3 years of experience as a Housekeeping Worker or Laundry Worker, preferably in a healthcare facility.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
  • Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and other regulatory agencies.
  • Must pass a medical and physical examination as per the Center’s policies.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 35 pounds.
  • May be exposed to residents' blood/body fluids.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents if necessary.

Working Conditions

  • Works in well-lighted and ventilated areas.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions.
  • May be required to work beyond normal working hours or in other positions temporarily as needed.

Pay

$26.31 per hour.
