About the role
Operating Room Environmental Service Specialists are responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sterile environment within perioperative suites and related areas, supporting both patient care and hospital operations.
Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain specified areas within Perioperative Suites, including OR suites, locker rooms, lounges, corridors, and sub-sterile rooms, restoring them to a standard layout that meets or exceeds a 90% positive inspection rating
- Clean the Surgery Department after each case and terminally clean the operating rooms, staff lounge, staff locker rooms, staff offices, and common areas in the Surgical Department
- Dispose of biohazard waste according to hospital standards; coordinate linen supply and distribution, restock clean linens, and ensure proper storage
- Replenish environmental cleaning carts, surgical masks/caps/boots, soaps, and other supplies in designated areas
- Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required; follow fire, electrical, infection control, and body mechanics safety protocols
- Use appropriate chemicals within standard procedures of OSS
- Perform daily floor maintenance of hard surface floors, including dry mopping, spot mopping, wet mopping, buffing with buffer or burnisher, and scrubbing with automatic floor scrubber
- High dust all surfaces that collect dust
- Sanitize and polish fixtures and restock supplies in bathrooms
- Empty, damp wipe, and reline all trash receptacles
- Clean corners and baseboards
- Terminally clean all operating rooms at the end of each day
- Utilize the Xenex robot in each room for the recommended time
- Perform monthly cycle clean of Operating Rooms
