About the role
The Environmental Services (EVS) Technician position at Houston Methodist performs a variety of general and moderately complex cleaning tasks in assigned specialty areas to ensure a safe and attractive environment for patients, guests, and staff. This role adheres to environmental and infection control standards and follows AORN standards for procedure room turnover and terminal cleaning.
Responsibilities
- Responds promptly and positively to requests for assistance with directions and information from patients, staff, and visitors.
- Prompts responses to all assignments to create an environment conducive for healing, communicating and documenting any facility or patient-related issues to management as appropriate.
- Follows department processes for room cleaning and discharge inspections, aiming to meet or exceed HCAHPS cleanliness scores.
- Achieves discharge, daily room cleaning, and assigned area turn-around times, as appropriate.
- During discharge activity, tracks, logs, and notifies appropriate management of safety and repair needs for equipment.
- Follows policies, procedures, and safety rules, corrects minor safety hazards, and observes standard infection control precautions.
- Performs various cleaning/maintenance tasks, including floor cleaning, waste collection, and linen distribution.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent education (GED, homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education).
- One year of experience preferred.
- Required: DOTHAZMAT Certification (DOT).
- Preferred: Driver License (DL).

- Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, as determined through ongoing assessments.
- Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English to perform essential functions.
- Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers.
- Accesses and utilizes information within the department and hospital system to support the department.

- Accurately and efficiently completes duties with minimal supervision.
- Efficient and safe use of housekeeping equipment and chemicals.
- Communicates in a manner consistent with a customer service focus.
