Environmental Services Technician: Laundry

About the role

Our Environmental Services Technicians keep FCMC sterile, clean, and orderly; specifically, this position focuses on laundry duties, enabling residents to be their most clean and comfortable and allowing the facility to run smoothly.

Responsibilities

  • Gathering soiled linens, resident clothing, and any other laundry
  • Pre-washing, washing, folding, sorting, and storing laundry in assigned areas
  • Keeping the laundry and linen area clean and orderly
  • Reporting any needed repairs
  • Taking initiative to assist with housekeeping in other areas of the facility
  • Complying with universal precautions, using safety protective equipment provided
  • Communicating information, responding to requests, and building rapport within the housekeeping department and other departments
  • Adhering to infection control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations in order to protect patients and fellow employees

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred
  • A service-minded work ethic, positive attitude, and ability to adapt to change
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to interact effectively with people who have widely differing backgrounds
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills

  • Ability to read chemical labels and instructions
  • Ability to use housekeeping equipment

Essential Job Functions

  • Regular and predictable attendance is required
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or twist
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, and balance
  • Occasionally required to operate foot controls and equipment
  • Frequently able to move, push, lift, or carry items of varying weights
  • Specific vision abilities required by this role include close vision and color vision, and ability to see and read information labels and identify and operate equipment and supplies
  • Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms containing power cords on the floor and other equipment
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time
  • Must be able to access and navigate throughout the department within the organization's facilities
  • Must be able to hear and understand instructions, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencies
  • Must comply with HIPAA
  • Must wear PPE as required to maintain Infection Control Standards set by the facility

Work Environment

  • FCMC operates 24 hours per day each day of the year: operational needs of departments may require that you be available to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the patients
  • Potential exposure to blood, body tissue, fluids, contagious diseases, and hazardous waste
  • Occasional exposure to bodily injury, loud/unpleasant noise, unpleasant odor, emotional or physical stress
  • May be required to work day or night in a confined environment or a variation of different temperatures
  • This position works in the hospital setting

Schedule

Part-time: Friday, Saturday & Sunday, 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM
