Major Responsibilities

  • Clean/disinfect assigned area(s) with appropriate cleaning solutions and following schedules.
  • Operate various equipment and use chemicals and solutions following department policy.
  • Keep work areas clean and safe.
  • Demonstrate commitment to customer satisfaction through AIDET and conflict resolution.
  • Maintain confidentiality and present department positively.
  • Thoroughly wash and sanitize beds and rooms upon patient discharge.
  • Clean and sanitize entire room and washroom upon patient discharge.
  • Utilize appropriate germicide in disinfecting rooms.
  • Select and transport cleaning materials and supplies.
  • Clean all assigned areas utilizing established department procedures.
  • Replenish supplies and collect waste.
  • Sanitize garbage cans.
  • Follow Standard (Universal) Precautions and departmental policies.
  • Place soiled linen in chutes and ensure a safe, clean environment.
  • Prepare detergents, germicidal solutions, and other cleaning/disinfecting solutions.
  • Sweep, dust mop, and spot clean floor areas and carpets.
  • Shampoo furniture, carpets, and rugs.
  • Identify types of soiled or spotted areas and utilize proper solutions.
  • Handle chemicals and solutions following departmental policies.
  • Ensure all chemicals and solutions are in properly labeled containers.
  • Adhere to safety regulations.
  • Move equipment and furniture for cleaning, rearrangement, and relocation.
  • Arrange furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion.
  • Notify supervisor of equipment needing repair.
  • Report safety hazards.
  • Return unused supplies to closet and ensure all items are replaced in an orderly manner.
  • Collect and distribute soiled and/or clean linens.
  • Collect trash and/or waste from all areas of the hospital.
  • Collect hazardous and medical waste according to procedures established by the Infection Control Committee.
  • Sanitize all garbage/waste disposal containers.
  • Separate regular and recycle trash according to procedure.
  • Attend mandatory departmental and hospital meetings and inservices.
  • Complete annual CBT's and follow departmental goals and objectives.
  • Seek education and learning experiences in areas of identified growth needs.
  • Maintain proper attendance and punctuality.
  • Plan for special days off in advance and submit written requests for time off.
  • Provide adequate notice for absences and call in two hours before the beginning of shift.

Education/Experience Required

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
  • Basic computer skills preferred
