Environmental Services Tech

Job Summary

The Environmental Services Tech I is responsible for executing daily duties to establish and maintain a safe, hygienic, and aesthetically pleasing care environment. This role involves interactions with patients, visitors, and clinical and non-clinical staff, ensuring timely room turnovers and adherence to environmental hygiene and infection prevention principles.

Responsibilities

• Completes daily occupied and discharge/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and other common areas.
• Ensures timely room turnovers related to patient throughput within the basic principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention.
• Performs duties while demonstrating a working knowledge of healthcare cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements.
• Demonstrates safe chemical use and equipment handling for all items within the healthcare environment.
• Adheres to all organization safety, risk management, and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety.
• May be asked to perform tasks such as conference room set-ups, cleaning of stairwells and elevators, and hanging of cubicle curtains.
• May be asked to mentor new Environmental Services Tech I employees.
• Collaborates with others as part of the patient care team.

Requirements

• Ability to explain and perform intermediate level disinfection.
• Communicates openly and candidly, creating an environment where co-workers and team members reciprocate in kind.
• Respects viewpoints and ideas of others.
• Ability to distinguish between levels of disinfection and perform low and intermediate level disinfection.
• Ability to operate necessary equipment/machines.
• Effectively uses computers and mobile devices.
• Ability to work without close supervision.
• Previous healthcare experience preferred.
• High School diploma or GED preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Medium Work - Exert up to 50 lbs. force occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently, and up to 10 lbs. constantly.
