About the role
As our Environmental Services Technician, you'll keep our patient rooms and all areas of the hospital clean and sanitized. This protects everyone from potential illness or injury due to infectious diseases or other hazards. You truly are the most important component contributing to the safety and comfort of our patients, visitors, and staff. A well-maintained facility with compassionate staff brings comfort and peace of mind to patients, their loved ones, and all who serve here.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, or dusting
- Use specialized equipment and techniques to further sanitize our facility
- Learn and adhere to proper disposal techniques for biohazard materials, including bodily fluids or sharp objects
- Refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, and other supplies
- Deliver clean linens
- Complete as assigned, daily occupied and discharge/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and other common areas
- Perform duties while demonstrating a working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements
- Display safe chemical use and equipment handling for all items within the healthcare environment
- Adhere to all organization safety, risk management and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety
- Actively participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics
- Maintain cleaning cart(s), supplies, and equipment, as outlined in the Standard Work cart set up
- Remove waste and transport to the appropriate disposal area while identifying proper waste stream handling (i.e. regulated medical, recycle, solid, and hazardous) in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements
- Follow all infection prevention practices, including but not limited to: proper cleaning and disinfection protocols, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, proper donning and doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Recognize and adhere to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA)
- Demonstrate knowledge of facility safety requirements
- Demonstrate the ability to operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment
- Perform tasks according to the various facility needs, including but not limited to: conference room set ups, cleaning of stairwells and elevators, and hanging of cubicle curtains
- May be asked to mentor new Environmental Services Tech I employees
Qualifications
- Required: None
- Preferred: High School Graduate or GED with General Studies and previous healthcare experience
Pay
$22.34 - $35.91 /hour
