About the Role

The Environmental Services Supervisor (ESS) oversees all custodial services at Esperanza Health Center's (EHC) clinics, promoting the highest standard of safety and cleanliness in a cost-efficient manner. This role is approximately 75% hands-on custodial work and 25% administrative work, with responsibilities including equipment and supply maintenance, budget and inventory monitoring, and supervision of custodial specialists. The ESS also handles grounds keeping and assists with repairs and maintenance across all sites. Evenings, weekends, and on-call availability are required.

Responsibilities

  • Custodial Maintenance
    • Oversees selection, assignment, scheduling, and training of custodial staff.
    • Plans and oversees all custodial work to maintain safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.
    • Maintains inventory and recommends suitable custodial supplies.
    • Inspects custodial staff performance regularly.
    • Performs cleaning tasks: sweeping, mopping, dusting, washing, polishing, waxing floors, vacuuming, and steam cleaning carpets.
    • Cleans interior and exterior walls, floors, ceilings, fixtures, windows, and restrooms.
    • Operates floor cleaning machinery and trains staff on its use.
    • Moves furniture and sets up for meetings.
    • Checks heating and air conditioning systems for proper operation.
    • Responds to work requests promptly.
  • Grounds Keeping
    • Cuts lawns using push power mowers.
    • Trims and edges around sidewalks, driveways, and flower beds.
    • Prunes shrubs and trees.
    • Cleans grounds and removes litter.
    • Removes graffiti and clears storm drain inlets.
    • Power washes sidewalks.
    • Plans and executes snow removal at all EHC sites.
  • Facilities Maintenance
    • Works closely with the Facilities Maintenance Technician on project implementation.
    • Cross-trains to assist with painting, repairs, and installations.
    • Operates and maintains an ATV for snow removal and salting.
    • Lifts and moves office supplies, furniture, and medical equipment.
    • Participates in semi-annual power outage failure simulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5-7 years of professional experience.
  • Custodial experience required.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Working knowledge of custodial machinery and chemicals.
  • Ability to prioritize and maintain composure during high-stress situations.
  • Strong oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and details.
  • Organizational and detail-verification skills.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required (exemptions considered for valid religious or medical reasons).

Knowledge of health care systems and related services is preferred. Spanish language skills are a plus but not required.
