Environmental Service Worker
Location: 355 Grand Street, Jersey City, NJ 07302
Status: Full-Time, Hourly • Day Shift, 7:00am–3:00pm • 40 hrs./week • Every other weekend and holidays as needed
Pay Range: $19.79 per hour
About the Role
Under the supervision of the Environmental Services Department, the Environmental Service Worker cleans and supplies patient rooms, nursing stations, ancillary areas, and other assigned areas in accordance with standard procedures of the Environmental Services Department and in accordance with the Medical Center objectives.
Responsibilities
- Arrange furniture for meetings, workshops, and community affairs
- Assist in cleaning of emergency spills observed or upon request
- Clean housekeeping closet and maintain par levels
- Collect and transport all waste, including Regulated Medical Waste (RMW), according to policy
- Compact trash or place in containers
- Damp buff and shampoo carpets with approved equipment
- Dry and wet mop floors of rooms and offices
- Dust mop and wet mop corridors, stairwells, and other common areas
- Empty waste receptacles and remove trash
- Maintain assigned equipment for cleanliness and arrange repairs when needed
- Observe and report the need to repair equipment, furniture, buildings, and fixtures
- Perform cleaning functions in assigned areas following established schedules and using prescribed methods
- Perform patient discharge cleaning using a 9-step cleaning procedure
- Refill paper towels, toilet paper, soap, and toilet seat dispensers
- Return promptly from errands, breaks, and meals
- Scrub and burnish floors with approved equipment
- Transport bulk trash from designated collection points to the compactor area
- Use and prepare solutions according to procedure
- Vacuum carpets
Requirements
- Successful completion of general and department-specific orientation
Qualifications
- Preferred: GED or High School Diploma
- Preferred: Hospital housekeeping experience
