About the Role
With a strong emphasis on sub-acute care, post-acute care, and long-term services, Twin Lakes Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center is a dynamic and innovative leader in transforming traditional nursing homes into skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities. The Director of Environmental Services ensures our facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner in accordance with federal, state, and local standards.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Environmental Departments.
- Develop and maintain written policies and procedures for the Environmental Departments.
- Assist staff in the development and use of departmental policies, procedures, equipment, and supplies.
- Review and revise department policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions annually.
- Interpret department policies and procedures to employees, residents, visitors, and government agencies.
- Coordinate services and activities with other departments (e.g., Dietary, Nursing, Activities).
- Provide written and oral reports to the Administrator concerning department operations.
- Assist in establishing a preventive maintenance program.
- Submit accident or incident reports to Human Resources within 24 hours of occurrence.
- Assist the Infection Control Coordinator in identifying and classifying tasks involving potential exposure to blood or body fluids.
- Inspect storage rooms, workrooms, and utility closets for upkeep and supply control.
- Develop and implement plans of correction for environmental deficiencies noted during inspections.
- Monitor economic conditions and recommend adjustments to maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.
- Perform administrative duties, including completing forms, reports, evaluations, and studies.
- Ensure services performed by outside vendors are properly completed or supervised.
- Delegate responsibilities to a staff member in your absence.
- Determine departmental staffing requirements.
- Serve on and implement recommendations from facility committees (e.g., Infection Control, Safety, QA).
- Meet regularly with housekeeping personnel and inter-department supervisors to address issues and improve services.
- Attend department head meetings as scheduled.
- Schedule and announce Environmental Department meetings.
- Standardize methods for performing Environmental Service tasks.
- Review and address complaints and grievances from department personnel.
- Make daily rounds to ensure personnel are performing required duties and housekeeping procedures meet facility needs.
Requirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- At least two years of supervisory experience in a skilled nursing facility or related position.
- Knowledge of boilers, compressors, generators, and various mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Knowledge of building codes and safety regulations.
