Environmental Senior Staff Scientist

Terracon is seeking a curious and experienced Environmental Senior Staff Scientist to support our growing service line in North Dakota. This mid-level role involves managing due diligence, subsurface investigations, soil vapor assessments, and remedial actions for a diverse client base. You will also help develop new client relationships, maintain existing ones, and mentor younger staff. Collaborate with a regional team of experts on dynamic projects, ensuring timely and budget-conscious execution. This position is based in Bismarck, Fargo, or Minot, offering a flexible working environment.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects; participate in pre-task planning and report safety concerns.
• Integrate quality leadership practices into daily work and maintain consistent quality standards for proposals and project delivery.
• Conduct site testing and make recommendations for systems design on medium-sized projects of varying complexity; assist senior scientists/engineers on larger, complex projects.
• Perform site visits, field observations, and data collection.
• Direct and supervise field staff to sample, test, collect data, and document site activities to meet client project requirements.
• Develop written proposals for small and large projects, including quality control review of proposals written by others.
• Evaluate complex laboratory and field data and compile findings into written reports.
• Serve as a team member or lead in client meetings and communications regarding specific projects/tasks.
• Oversee work performed by lower-level scientists, engineers, and technicians.
• Work under the supervision of a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a related field with a minimum of 5 years’ experience, or a minimum of 9 years’ related experience without a degree.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
• Certification in your field of expertise is required.
