Responsibilities

  • Collect project-related data, which may include research, conducting surveys for listed species, interviews with government agencies and clients, map reviews, land use, etc.
  • Absorb and manage data.
  • Prepare constraints mapping.
  • Lead field investigations for natural resources, such as wetlands, protected species habitat, trees, etc.
  • Define the level of environmental analysis required.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments.
  • Perform complex assignments, making independent decisions on problems and methods.
  • Assist in preparation for and participation in public information meetings and hearings.
  • Assist public and private clients with permit coordination, acquisition and compliance.
  • Work independently on medium-size projects, or assist more-senior scientists on larger projects.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, research, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills.
  • USFWS Permit for various species.
  • Experience leading field teams and conducting natural resource surveys.
  • Experience preparing proposals, schedules, and cost estimates, as well managing execution of environmental tasks in support of public and private projects.
  • Experience in regulatory permit coordination and agency consultation (ex. USACE, USFWS).
  • Experience with City of Austin environmental permitting.
  • Experience in erosion and sedimentation control plans and inspections.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or closely related field.
  • 5 years technical and/or field experience preparing environmental documents.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel).
  • Strong environmental writing and communication skills.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving and research abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
