FPM Remediations, Inc. is seeking an Environmental Scientist/Geologist for a mid-level full-time position in its Columbus, OH office. About the role

This position will provide an opportunity to apply the latest technologies to conduct field investigations and remediate contaminated sites across the country for our clients. The role involves supporting projects at locations around the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Technical coordination and quality assurance of field work and production of technical planning documents and reports.
  • Participating in field programs, including the collection of soil, surface water, groundwater, sediment, and air samples.
  • Overseeing and monitoring subcontractors such as drill rig crews, surveyors, construction crews, and remediation teams.
  • Supporting preparation of technical reports, including importing electronic laboratory data into FPM’s and clients’ data management systems.
  • Evaluating data quality and usability, preparing written reports of field activities, observations, and findings, and creating graphics and figures of results.
  • Contractor management and analysis of findings based on scientific experimentation and existing knowledge.
  • Identifying viable remedial solutions consistent with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Supervising and supporting teams involved with field work and document production.
  • Supporting remediation system operation and maintenance (OM&M) activities.
  • Performing hydrogeological assessments regarding groundwater flows to identify contamination impact and related concerns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related field, with a preferred focus on geology and coursework in chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
  • 5 to 8 years of relevant professional experience in environmental investigation and remediation, implementing remedial actions, and overseeing construction.
  • 40 HR OSHA Hazwoper certification.
  • Prior experience working on Department of Defense projects (e.g., USACE, AFCEC, NAVFAC) is a major plus.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidance.
  • Ability to travel (~40 to 60% initially) and participate in safety training while adhering to company safety standards.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork orientation and ability to adapt to changing situations.
  • Proficiency in analyzing chemistry and environmental data, effective decision-making, and problem-solving.
  • GIS experience and extensive experience with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, are preferred.

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle tools, operate vehicles and equipment, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, and navigate uneven outdoor terrain.
