Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated Environmental Scientist/Biologist to support the growth of Tetra Tech's Texas environmental business. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated, work well in a professional and team-oriented environment, and possess strong communication and organizational skills.
Essential Job Functions
- Wetland delineation;
- Site investigations;
- Field surveys, water quality assessments, species specific and general protected species habitat surveys, mitigation monitoring;
- Travel and work hours other than Monday-Friday as needed for project work.
- Report writing, permit applications, plant community mapping, database management;
- Demonstrate the ability to research and interpret federal, state, and local regulations on a project-specific basis to assess project permitting feasibility and requirements, and interface with regulatory agencies.
- Show the ability to utilize critical thinking, a flexible approach to problem solving, excellent interpersonal communication (oral and written), planning, and organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any of the multi-disciplined sciences including biology, forestry, wildlife, natural resource management, environmental planning, or similar science degrees.
- Three plus years of experience in the permitting industry or related environmental consulting experience.
- Demonstrated ability in field data collection and analysis, and technical writing.
- Experience in environmental consulting or related experience preferred.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel required. ArcGIS experience is a plus.
- Applicant must be able to drive and pass a motor vehicle records check.
Physical Requirements
- Candidate must be able and available to travel via land and/or air and possess a valid driver’s license in good standing.
- Some heavy lifting required, and the ability to walk and stand for extended periods is essential.
- Physical tasks include walking over uneven and vegetated terrain, carrying field equipment and coolers (up to 50 pounds), and occasional sampling activities such as hand augering.
Work Environment / Environmental Factors
- The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
- Work will be split between the office and field.
- Travel requirements may include day-long projects that do not require overnight stays to multi-day and multi-week field projects that do require overnight stays.
- Field work will be primarily outdoors, exposed to varying weather conditions, can occur in remote locations, could include areas of uneven terrain, and may require wearing fire retardant clothing and personal protection equipment.
- Office work will be conducted at the Houston, Texas office.
