About the role

Stantec is seeking a Biologist to join its team on various ecosystem and water resources projects. The ideal candidate will assist more senior biologists, engineers, and designers by performing routine assessments and restoration assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Support projects involving wetland delineation and restoration, stream restoration, ecosystem restoration, vegetation monitoring, pollinator habitat, and environmental compliance.
  • Work with other environmental and engineering disciplines and professionals in coordinating project tasks under the direction of a senior biologist, engineer, or designer.
  • Perform field work as directed, including tasks such as vegetation monitoring, botanical surveys, soil sampling, wetland delineations, macroinvertebrate sampling, etc.
  • Enter and analyze biological and environmental data using ESRI ArcGIS software, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, etc.
  • Prepare tables, figures, summaries of findings, and survey reports.
  • Analyze proposed project solutions to ensure reliability, resource efficiency, and cost effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Willingness to learn new skills while conducting field work, work independently for long hours in potentially inclement weather conditions, and be flexible in undertaking work assignments.
  • Excellent verbal communication and technical writing skills.
  • Understanding of environmental and ecosystem restoration concepts and effective communication of ideas to others.
  • Proficiency in interpreting maps, sketches, drawings, and other similar material.
  • Conscientious, detail-oriented, organized, and disciplined.
  • Build and maintain productive professional and personal networking relationships within the technical team.
  • Good driving record and valid driver's license are required.

Skills

  • Ability to collect, enter, and analyze data for a project.
  • Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, etc.
  • Experience with field tasks such as vegetation monitoring, botanical surveys, soil sampling, wetland delineations, macroinvertebrate sampling, etc.
  • Basic calculations to enter and analyze biological and environmental data.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
